How to calculate profit per mile
1. Add all miles. Loaded miles plus the empty miles to get to the pickup and home. Empty miles cost the same fuel.
2. Subtract your costs. Total miles × your cost per mile. Take that away from the rate.
3. Divide by all miles. Profit ÷ total miles = profit per mile. Compare loads with this number, not rate per mile.
